Getting rid of anxiety attacks while driving

March 9th, 2010
Having anxiety attacks while driving is surprisingly more common among the current generation than was previously thought. It often starts with sudden sweating on your palms as they grip the steering wheel, your heart rate suddenly racing and your breathing becoming heavy. It can possibly also happen during situations that the driver is uncomfortable with such as driving on highways or bridges.
In dealing with driving anxiety one needs to face and confront their fear while repeating reassuring affirmations. Once you give in to your fear you strengthen and reinforce it starting a cycle that is difficult to break out of. The negative cycle if allowed can take over your life. The affirmations work well with positive music or travelling with a friend and most of all ignoring the negative thoughts. This leads to conditioning of the mind enabling you to get better and reduce the frequency of the anxiety attacks while driving so that they eventually end.
